The Australian Defence Force Golf Association (ADFGA) recently sent selected members from the three services to the inaugural tour to South East Asia to compete against selected teams from the Singaporean Armed forces (SAF) and United States personnel based in Singapore . The 13 man squad with handicaps ranging 8 – 13 included four Navy Members - LEUT Michael Robertson, WO Murray Widdeson, PO Rohan Halliday and PO David Toms. The tour began with practice rounds in Singapore at the National Services Resort and Country Club (NSRCC) Kranji and the affectionately known ‘commando course’ at Sembawang Country Club. Both courses proved to be challenging for the team members and gave the tour manager a great insight into team selection for the match against the SAF on the third day of the tour. The match against the SAF was a hard fought affair at Sembawang CC, with the ADF team losing 4 ½ to 7 ½. Despite the loss, the team members performed strongly with most matches being decided on the final holes. Read more
